Math Map - Using Google Maps

The Math Map project integrates the practical application of math, geography, history and language arts skills (if you continue to stretch it!).  The idea is to complete a number of math problems by virtually visiting a city using Google Maps.  Problems are divided by grade level - students simply click on the pushpins that are color-specific to their grade.  Teachers are encouraged to add problems to existing maps, or create their own.  What a fun project for a class to create and challenge others.  Writing extensions would include what students discovered about the city they toured.

CC Connection: Math Maps are a great way to engage students in working on problem solving skills, regardless of grade level.  The map component has practical application.  Reading skills in relation to research and pulling out main ideas are practiced.  Writing can be addressed too, as an extension.
